Keep Watch through the Night
Maundy Thursday Vigil
Thursday, April 18
Our sacred tradition of praying with Jesus through the night before his crucifixion comes from the words Christ said to Peter when he found the disciples sleeping while he prayed in anguish at Gethsemane. "Could you not keep watch with me for an hour?"
At Saint Mark’s, we keep watch in one-hour intervals in the chapel at the Altar of Repose. The first slots begin at 9 PM following the Maundy Thursday service and end at 8 AM when Morning Prayer begins. Come and pray one hour with your fellow parishioners and with Christ.
We give thanks for Phillip Brock, Saint Mark’s Vestry Member, for volunteering to be present at the church throughout the night.
